2009 - Beauty and a fun transition to ABCs

A beautiful way to start the new year Jan 20, 2009
you: "Did you hear that?" me: "what?" you: "The series of loud cracks that issued from my back." 1/6/09 6:15am :) Quite honestly, I had to look up the word "issued" to see if that was a proper usage, and of course, it is. And then I wrote you a note: "I have always loved your intelligence and sense of humor and the beauty with which you combine the two. There is an easy flow within you - and a struggle I can't name. Only you will be able to resolve it, but that is okay, because you are already doing precisely that. In one month, 4 short weeks, you will be 13 years old. Wow! No matter what, it seems, when a parent reflects on the time, from this perspective, it seems to have gone by so quickly. But! You and I both have savored many wonderful moments and held on through the storms and saved bits of ourselves and each other and not allowed anyone or anything to toss what we are not ready to let go - well, except your favorite sneakers - but at least you will always have the piece of art you created that was inspired by them, and we do have a few good pictures of them :) I still can't believe I did that, since I always hated it when Aunt Sue would throw out my precious memories by tossing something she perceived as  worthless. So why did I? I suppose there were many times I was trying desperately to maintain some illusion of control by trying to keep a neat house the way I thought someone else wanted it to be, or out of frustration because I had no clue what he really wanted. So there is a tidbit of truth for you."

The next piece I saved is a clipping from Jeff Corwin's visit to Meredith:

"Overcoming my resistance to waiting meant coming to terms with the 'still journey.' I would have to give up the compulsion to keep my line moving at the world's pace. I would need to find my own pace, one that flowed with with rhythms of the earth and the Spirit, not with the frenzy of modern life." ~ When the Heart Waits by Sue Monk Kidd
